How important is water?

When Burton Nutrition claimed that I needed to drink 6-8 (it may have even been 8-10, but I rarely manage that feat) glasses of water a day, I laughed. Yeah Right...
Up till that point I had been lucky to drink 3 glasses daily. But I was drinking coffee with creamer and pop like it was water. (fyi, that doesn't count, apparently. lol)
But I was jumping into this thing with both feet, so I bought the special water bottle with the BN logo on it, and that silly logo gave me the motivation daily to not only drink my water, but to stick to the eating plan. And by eating plan, I mean cutting back on the carbs and sugar, and upping the protein.
And what I learned about the water was - it helps!!
If you drink the 6-8 glasses of water daily, you don't want to snack so much. At least I didn't. (and even Weight Watchers tells you to drink water to curb your appetite...)
Once winter hit, I stopped drinking so much water, I don't really know why, I just didn't want it. Maybe it was the cold? Maybe my brain wanted hot coffee while it was so chilly out? I don't know...But I also craved food all day. I knew I wasn't supposed to have something to eat at noon if I was going to have my shake at 2, but I couldn't help myself. And then I didn't want to drink my water, because I was full.
I must be a slow learner, because I know this and yet some days I go for the snack instead of the water. Then I try to get in my 8 glasses, and my poor stomach is so full! If I was smart, I'd drink as much water as I could before 1pm, and go from there.
So, yes, water is very important when getting healthy.
They aren't joking when they tell you to drink so much.
Really. 6-8 or 8-10 glasses isn't a joke. And it is possible.
Drink it anyway you can. Get a water bottle with a fruit diffuser insert and add watermelon or cantaloupe, even honeydew. Oranges are a favorite of my son, and you can even try pineapple. I like to use Pure Via Stevia drops in my water. It changes the taste of the water just enough. My husband likes Stur Strawberry Watermelon water enhancer.
I NEVER was a water drinker. I grew up on Pepsi. (I drank Pepsi with my dinner when other kids my age had to choke down glasses of white *gag* milk) Then as a teenager I found coffee. Oh, I do love my Starbucks! (I cut that waaaay back too. From 4-5 times a week to 1-2 times a month) Coffee and pop, that was my day. Oh, and sweet iced tea too...liquid sugar! As you can see, my sugar intake was out of control..
So if I can drink 6-8 glasses of water a day, so can you!

Here's a tip, pour the maximum amount of coffee you want to drink. I pour about two cups. Then only drink your coffee while it's hot. Once it goes cold, coffee time is over and get your water. I used to re-heat my coffee all day long. (but let's be honest, it isn't that good once it's re-heated) Now I do it like this, once it's cold, I'm done. And some days I want every drop of those two cups of coffee that I pour, and others I might only drink half of it.
Besides not eating as much, I feel less bloated when I drink all my water.
Water has so many benefits
I take my water bottle everywhere. If it helps me get my water in then why not.
I'm sure I could drink more, and I will work on that...because that's what a healthy lifestyle is, it's a work in progress. Do better with each choice than the one before.
Cheers!!

My nemisis

I am failing miserably at this diet thing... I just want to look better and feel better and be healthy. The pandemic did me in...I'm serious. Suddenly I was no longer alone in the house, which was nice, but it turned me from getting my steps in while watching tv, and trying a new on-demand exercise routine to sitting. Mr. G working in the other room has me more self conscious about doing any of those things that I used to. And yes, that's a ME problem. Then there was the community panic of "Stores are going to run out of food!" So we were buying anything we could find in anticipation for empty shelves. (Now we know the only shelves that went empty were toilet paper, paper towels, I'm hearing baby formula, and cat food. Then breakfast sandwiches-which was odd.) But I went from buying all fresh veggies and proteins to whatever I could find. I still don't eat frozen chicken nuggets or strips, and I do make frozen fresh chicken. BUT my eating habits went crazy. I ...

Why it's called a Healthy Lifestyle

Why we call it learning a Healthy Lifestyle Because sometimes as adults we need to re-learn how to eat correctly. Just because we eat what we like doesn't mean it should cause us to gain 10lbs like it's nothing. And trust me, I've been there. Learning to eat healthy means making good choices every single day. It's not a diet. It's not never eating a piece of bread again. It's just making good choices. In the last year I lost AND KEPT OFF 30lbs. That is the big part for me - keeping it off. I wanted to lose 50lbs, and that didn't happen, but I kept off all that I lost, and I have to see that as a positive. I kept it off eating stuffing at Thanksgiving. I kept it off eating cookies and potatoes at Christmas. I kept it off over a bad three weeks in February that happened right at Valentine's day (so there was chocolate in the house, which we never have in the house). I was depressed and sad, and I ate. I ate EVERYTHING I could find. I wasn't proud ...

Out of the Darkness Walk 2019 - American Foundation for Suicide Awareness

On Saturday, we walked in the Out of the Darkness walk in Pittsburgh. We had a team of 10 people, and we walked in memory of our close family friend, Ricky Banas. Ricky was always laughing and joking (even as inappropriate as some of his jokes were, LOL!) None of us saw this coming... He was one amazing guy. He was like an older brother to all of us kids on the street. And Saturday, two of those "kids", who are now grown with families, walked in memory of him. My son was lucky enough to get to know Ricky. He got to have him in his life for 14 years. We even met up with a few of Ricky's family and friends at the walk. And I'll be there every year. The walk was along the riverfront, so along with beautiful views, it was about a 5k. I wish I could say that I did the whole 5k, but I only did half. It was hot, and most of our group wanted to stop after the first half. Next year I will do the whole 5k. Bring it on 2020!! Our team, Team Ricky, rais...
